Evangeline Downs track report

LAFAYETTE, La. - Prized Amberpro heads a field of seven fillies and mares for the $30,000 Matron Handicap at Evangeline Downs.

Prized Amberpro should rule a solid favorite off the strength of a fourth-place finish in the Grade 2, $400,000 Princess Rooney Handicap at Calder in her last start. Prior to that effort, she won back-to-back races at Lone Star Park, including the $100,000 Valid Expectations on May 27 in a fine time of 1:10.56 for the six furlongs. Her late-running style should serve her well in the Matron, as there appears to be plenty of pace. Trainer John Gelner will give C. J. Woodley a leg up on Prized Amberpro, the 120-pound highweight.

Mollie Mclash comes off a 1 3/4-length win in allowance company here on July 22. Jamie Theriot rides at 118 pounds.
