The American Quarter Horse Association has advised Quarter Horse breeders that there has been a confirmed outbreak of equine viral arteritis (EVA) "involving fetal losses among mares on an American Quarter Horse breeding farm in New Mexico." Neither the association's statement nor one from the New Mexico Livestock Board named the affected farm. . . . Josephine Abercrombie, a Thoroughbred owner and breeder, member of The Jockey Club, and the proprietor of Pin Oak Stud, has been named the 2006 recipient of Arlington Park's annual Penny Chenery Distinguished Woman in Racing Award. The award will be presented at a charity event on Aug. 10 at the track.
