Great Lakes Downs will have a 2002 schedule quite similar to 2001, but with 10 fewer live dates, Michigan's racing commissioner has announced. The track will race 118 days next year between April 29 and Oct. 29. . . . Jockey Shane Laviolette scored his 1,000th career victory aboard Big Surprise at Hawthorne on Friday. Laviolette finished fourth in the standings at Hawthorne's spring meet and was sixth at the recently concluded Arlington Park meet. . . . Lycius, a Group 1 winner and a son of Mr. Prospector, has been moved for the 2002 breeding season to Mill Creek Farm in Stillwater, N.Y., where he will stand for $7,500. Lycius formerly stood in Ireland and Florida and has sired nine graded or group winners in this country and Europe. . . . Irish and English champion Minardi will enter stud in 2002 at Walmac International in Lexington, Ky. A 3-year-old Boundary colt, Minardi will stand for $12,500, according to a Walmac release.
