Jockey Jose Santos has once again brought legal action against the Miami Herald, claiming in a suit filed May 9 in Broward County, Fla., that he was defamed by an article questioning whether he carried an illegal electrical device aboard Funny Cide in their 2003 Kentucky Derby victory, the Associated Press has reported. Santos, who was cleared of allegations of cheating, had previously filed suit against the paper in Louisville, Ky., but that suit was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction . . . Charlotte Weber, a Thoroughbred owner and breeder and member of The Jockey Club, has been named recipient of Arlington Park's third annual Penny Chenery Distinguished Women in Racing Award. Weber, owner and operator of Live Oak Stud, will be presented the award Aug. 11 at the track.
