Nick Jemas, a former jockey and executive director of the Jockeys' Guild, died Thursday at age 86. Jemas, whose riding career ran from 1940 to 1960, will be laid out Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Saint Thomas Greek Orthodox Church in Cherry Hill, N.J. . . . Fort Erie unveiled its new $2.5 million racing surface Thursday, with 33 horses recording workouts over fast going. Fort Erie, which cut its meeting short last year to accommodate reconstruction of the dirt surface, begins its 2005 meeting May 1. . . . Mauk Four went wire to wire for a 2 1/2-length victory over Clays Awesome in the Grade 3, $100,000 Fifth Season Breeders' Cup at Oaklawn Park on Wednesday.
