Robert Gaffglione, a jockey for more than 40 years, died Dec. 5 at age 68 in a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., hospital from complications of Parkinson's disease. Gaffglione rode Rexon's Hope to a 10th-place finish in the 1984 Kentucky Derby. . . . The Claiming Crown has added a seventh race for this year's event, to will be held July 16 at Canterbury Park. The new race, the Tiara, is a $100,000, 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares. . . . Tomahawk, Ireland's champion 2-year-old colt in 2002, will stand the 2005 breeding season at Park Stud in Ontario. A son of Seattle Slew, Tomahawk will stand for $8,500 Canadian. . . .

John Servis, trainer of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones, has been named the 2004 Big Sport of Turfdom by the Turf Publicists of America. The award is given for enhancing coverage of Thoroughbred racing through cooperation with news media and publicists. . . . Churchill Downs has named Robert Gallow as its new facility manager, overseeing all service and maintenance functions. Gallow, 49, was previously director of operations for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League.
