Topped by a $270,000 Thunder Gulch colt, Fasig-Tipton's Midlantic 2-year-old sale ended Tuesday with a 6 percent gain in gross revenue but a drop in the average price from last year's sale. A larger catalog boosted the two-day auction's total revenue, with 268 horses selling for $8,529,400, but the average price declined by 6 percent to $31,826, compared with 2000, when the auction sold 239 juveniles for $8,054,800, an average price of $33,702. . . . Nebraska racing commission officials said Wednesday that trainer Kenneth L. Johnson has not had any horses test positive for clonidine, a prohibited Class 3 medication. Johnson had been named by the commission with six other trainers for positive tests, but the officials said his inclusion in the list was a clerical error.
