Funny Cide, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, jogged Monday morning at the newly opened Palm Meadows training center in Boynton, Beach, Fla. Robin Smullen, the gelding's exercise rider and assistant to trainer Barclay Tagg, said Funny Cide would have to breeze "two or three times before we know where we are with him condition-wise," and that the first workout would probably not occur before this weekend. . . . Mike Harte, a Santa Anita-based trainer, died at age 57 on Saturday, a week after being hospitalized following a massive heart attack. Harte, who trained nine horses at the time of his death, had one of his best runners in Falkenham, who finished fifth in the 1996 Breeders' Cup Juvenile. . . . Penn National Race Course has received approval from the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission to hold 204 live Thoroughbred racing programs in 2004, four fewer than this year. Live racing will be held year-round, primarily Wednesday through Saturday, with a maintenance break from Sept. 5-16. . . . Jockeys Orlando Mojica and Ramsey Zimmerman were aboard eight of the 11 winners on Saturday's Hoosier Park card, each winning four races. It was Mojica's fifth four-bagger of the meet, while Zimmerman rode four winners for the third consecutive night.
