Broad Brush, who stands at Gainesway Farm in Lexington, Ky., had arthrodesis surgery on his left front fetlock on Oct. 1 because of degenerative arthritis. The farm announced the surgery on Friday, saying it went "uneventfully" and that the 20-year-old stallion is expected to start the 2004 breeding season on time. . . . The Jockey Club has issued an updated edition of its Principal Rules and Requirements of the American Stud Book, including current information regarding DNA-typing requirements and emphasizing a requirement that foals of 2001 and later be re-typed when entering stud as stallions.
