Richard Monterrey, the nation's second-leading apprentice jockey, bruised a kidney in a spill Wednesday at Charles Town when his mount, Apache Flame, broke down the sixth race. Monterrey will be sidelined for about two weeks, according to his agent, Steve Rushing. . . . The Tattersalls autumn horses-in-training sale in Newmarket, England, posted a new record for gross revenue, selling 760 lots for $27,470,615 (up 28 percent), for an average price of $36,146 (up 25 percent) and a median of $19,635 (up 10 percent). The sale-topper, auctioned Thursday at the last session, was the $410,550 Bluebird colt Diospyros Blue, bought by John Egan, representing foreign clients, from Kingsdown Stables.
