The Council of the Emirates Racing Association has named Fin Powrie as the new director of racing in the United Arab Emirates. The appointment of Powrie, who will retain his post as the association's chief steward, comes on the heels of the April resignation of Les Benton as chairman. . . . Magna Entertainment Corp. is organizing three fund-raising events featuring advance screenings of the movie "Seabiscuit," in cities near racetracks Magna owns. The events will take place in the San Francisco Bay area, the site of Golden Gate Fields and Bay Meadows, on July 22 to benefit the Winners Foundation; in Baltimore, home to Laurel and Pimlico, on July 23 to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and The Maryland Horse Industry Foundation; and in Dallas, near Lone Star Park, on July 24, to raise money for the Lone Star Park Charitable Foundation for Grand Prairie.
