Churchill Downs handled more than $14 million on Saturday, breaking the record for a Stephen Foster Day card, which was set in in 2002, by 4.4 percent. While ontrack attendance for the four-stakes day was down 2.4 percent to 12,483 and ontrack wagering declined just under 1 percent, offtrack wagering was a record $12.7 million, up 5.3 percent from the Stephen Foster Day record of last year. . . . . English-based Tattersalls auction house has hired prominent auctioneer Philip Myerscough to its staff in England and Ireland. Myerscough, who will begin auctioneering during the Tattersalls (Ireland) Derby sale on June 26-27 at the company's Fairyhouse facility, is also a Thoroughbred breeder and stood the sire Fairy King at his Ballysheehan Stud in Co. Tipperary before selling the horse to Coolmore Stud. . . . Liberty Stud in Ghent, N.Y., owned by Jim Scott and home to the stallions All Gone, Kettle Won, Badge, and Manlove, among others, has hired Bill Allen Jr. as its farm manager. Allen most recently was assistant manager of Farnsworth Farms. . . . The Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s two-day June auction of 2-year-olds and horses of racing age was scheduled to start on June 17 at 11 a.m. at the OBS pavilion in Ocala, Fla. The sale, which was to run through June 18, features 490 juveniles and 22 older horses and may be viewed live on the Internet at www.obssales.com.
