Gerry Howard, chief Arizona state steward, died in a traffic accident in Phoenix on Friday night. Howard, the chief steward since 1989 for Turf Paradise, Prescott, and other Arizona race meets, was 61. . . . Jockey Rodney Prescott won six races in a row at Indiana Downs on Saturday. Prescott won races 3 through 8, including the $37,800 William Henry Harrison Stakes aboard Indy Energy. . . . Jockey Mike Morgan was honored with flowers and a commemorative trophy at Indiana Downs Saturday for having won his 3,000th career race earlier in the week. . . . Trainer David Anderson and jockey Perry Compton established new records at the Fonner Park meet that ended Sunday. Compton rode 91 winners, topping his 85 in 2000, and Anderson saddled 55 winners, beating Marv Johnson's record of 50 set in 2000.
