Turfway Park in Florence, Ky., canceled its fifth straight card on Wednesday because of a storm that blanketed the area with several inches of snow and ice. The track, which has lost seven days of live racing since Jan. 1, is scheduled to resume racing Thursday. . . . A Kentucky state legislator introduced a bill on Tuesday that would legalize slot machines at racetracks. The bill would give the state from 28 to 41.4 percent of revenue from the machines, with racetracks getting 52.5 percent on average and horsemen 12.7 percent. . . . Claramount, a Grade 2 winner and 1988's New York-bred horse of the year, died Saturday of a ruptured aorta at The Stallion Park in Millbrook, N.Y., at age 19. Claramont has lifetime progeny earnings of more than $7.4 million from 11 crops to race. . . . The Louisiana Gaming Control Board on Tuesday approved Evangeline Downs's floor plans for a slots casino with approximately 1,600 machines. The track, in Lafayette, La., plans to construct the casino in nearby Opelousas, where slots were approved by voters and racing operations will later move.
