Gossamer, winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas, has been retired and will be bred at Eydon Hall Farm in Northamptonshire, England. A full sister to 1994 Breeders' Cup Mile winner Barathea, Gossamer also won the Group 1 Fillies Mile and the seven-furlong Group 3 Prestige Stakes during her undefeated 2001 juvenile season, for which she was named the second highweighted 2-year-old filly on the International Classification behind Queen's Logic. . . . Ultimate Warrior won the $50,000 Holiday Cheer Stakes at Turfway Park on Wednesday, going wire to wire to complete six furlongs in 1:10.82 over a muddy track, beating Gallatin Kid by 1 3/4 lengths, with Slider rallying late for third. Ultimate Warrior, trained by Bernie Flint, paid $4.60 as part of an entry with Alydelta.
