Gary Wilfert has resigned as racing secretary at River Downs in Ohio because of scheduling conflicts with two racetracks in Indiana, where he will continue to serve as senior state steward. Wilfert cited the opening of the new Indiana Downs, along with scheduling overlaps between Hoosier Park in Anderson, Ind., and River Downs, for his decision. . . . Edward G. Mackie Sr. has been appointed director of mutuels at Calder, replacing Pat Mahony, who has accepted the position of vice president of mutuels for the New York Racing Association. Mackie, the director of mutuels at Hialeah from 1974 to 2001, will assume his new duties on April 25, opening day of the 2003 Calder season.
