Corey Johnsen, president of Lone Star Park, is the first non-jockey to be awarded membership in the National Jockeys' Guild. Johnsen, who came up with the idea for the All-Star Jockey Championship, was made an honorary member Friday and was presented with a plaque by Chris McCarron . . . Colonial Downs 26-day meet got off to a positive start Friday as handle at the New Kent, Va., track was up 20 percent from last year's opening day. Total wagering for the day was $1,386,526, up from last year's $1,152,370. . . . Canterbury Park has raised its purses 5 percent. Canterbury president Randy Sampson attributes the increase to "the continued success of our card club," while noting that the current Canterbury meet is up 4 percent in attendance and more than 7 percent in all-sources handle. . . . Gary Baze suffered a fractured ankle as a result of a two-horse spill in the eighth race at Emerald Downs Friday night. Baze, 46, the winningest jockey ever in the State of Washington, underwent surgery on Saturday and will be sidelined indefinitely. . . . Artist Anthony Alonso will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from some sales of his "Horse Fair Panorama" prints to the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, the organization announced Friday. Alonso will donate the percentage only for "Horse Fair Panorama" prints sold to members of the foundation, which costs a minimum of $100 annually to join. The 200 prints cost $495 each unframed and $750 framed.
