Millard H. Harrell, a West Virginia owner, breeder, trainer, and racing official, died Sunday at INO-VA Hospital in Fairfax, Va. Harrell, who was instrumental in establishing the West Virginia Breeders Classics, was 75. . . . Michael Roberts, the leading South African jockey in history, has retired from riding. Roberts, 47, who rode 3,964 winners worldwide, was the champion rider in his native country 11 times before moving to Britain, where he won the riding title in 1992. . . . Trainer Peter Bazeos will have 45 days tacked on to his current ban after a search of his Suffolk Downs barn found him in possession of the Class 1 drug strychnine. Bazeos was originally suspended 30 days and fined $250 when one of his horses tested positive for the bronchial dilator Glycopyrrolate and a subsequent search by Massachusetts State Police turned up two vials of strychnine.
