The final two races on Fairmount Park's Saturday card were canceled after a transformer was struck by lightning after the eighth race, shorting out power to the ontrack lights. After a 43-minute delay, track electrician restored all but three of the towers, but management deemed conditions unsafe for racing. . . . River Downs lost power Sunday afternoon for approximately an hour because of high winds. The third and fourth races were run during the outage, making wagering difficult in some locations, before power was restored. . . . Traditionally, a Grade 1-winning son of champion and 1996 broodmare of the year Personal Ensign, will stand the 2003 season at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland. According to the Racing Post, Ballylinch purchased the 5-year-old Mr. Prospector horse, who was owned by the late Ogden Phipps.
