Six Crowns, dam of champion Chief's Crown and Grade 1 winner Classic Crown, was euthanized on Thursday because of the infirmities of old age. She was 26. A daughter of the legendary Secretariat, Six Crowns will be buried at Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Ky., next to her dam, 1974 champion 3-year-old filly and Hall of Fame member Chris Evert. . . . Jim Gagliano, currently vice president and general manager of Philadelphia Park, has been named president of Magna Entertainment's offtrack betting operation, effective Feb. 23. Canadian trainer Vern Bingham and three other Canadian nationals were arrested in Portland, Ore., Thursday night and charged with possession of an estimated 700 pounds of marijuana. The police said they observed the suspects transferring the marijuana from a horse trailer to a van in a parking lot at Portland International Speedway, an auto track not far from Portland Meadows.
