Joe Hirsch, who retired in 2003 after more than 50 years as columnist for Daily Racing Form, suffered a broken hip Sunday and was in New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center. He was scheduled to undergo hip replacement surgery Monday or Tuesday. . . . Jockey Rodney Prescott won five of the eight races at River Downs on Sunday. Prescott had only six mounts on the card. . . . . Jockey Mike Ziegler won his 2,000th career race Friday at Fonner Park aboard Feeding Frenzy ($8.20) in the seventh race.
