Boyd Gaming Corporation, a Las Vegas company that operates 11 casino properties around the country, completed its acquisition of Delta Downs in Vinton, La., on Thursday for an estimated $115 to $125 million. Boyd now plans to ask the Louisiana Gaming Control Board for a license to operate slot machines at the track and hopes to open a slots casino by the summer or early fall. . . . A three-day suspension given Kieren Fallon at Ayr on Thursday will cost him the ride in the June 9 Epsom Derby on the favorite, Golan. Fallon's suspension, for irresponsible riding on Distinctive Dream in the RS Design Handicap at the Scottish track, will run from June 9-11. . . . Dr. Paul Mostert, founder of Equix Biomechanics in Lexington, Ky., and currently head of The Mostert Group, has received a $427,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to use technology that tracks digital video images of Thoroughbreds in motion during competition. Mostert's program automatically tracks stride length, leg angles, accelerations, and other factors to evaluate stride efficiency. . . . TheGreatestGame.com, a joint owner-recruitment project by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, and Keeneland - has relaunched its Web site and created new ads to run on networks that show NTRA programming. The Web site now includes information about many aspects of racehorse ownership, including purchase options, sample expense projections, and tips on organizing a horse-selection and training team. . . . Churchill Downs Inc. said Thursday that Levy Restaurants will become the food supplier for all its racetracks and simulcast facilities beginning July 11. Levy, which has been providing food service at Arlington Park, now a Churchill property, since 1989, will replace Aramark at several of Churchill's facilities.
