Essex is possible next start for Shotgun Kowboy
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Shotgun Kowboy was a powerful allowance winner between the running of the Razorback Handicap and Southwest Stakes last Monday at Oaklawn, and he could return to stakes company for his next start, trainer C.R. Trout said Thursday.
Trout said the horse, who has won both of his starts at this meet, is possible for the $250,000 Essex on March 18.
Shotgun Kowboy earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 95 for his 3 3/4-length win Monday.
“I thought it was the best race he ever ran,” Trout said. “I was very proud of him.
“We’ll look at the Essex. It’s a little quick back, it’s like three weeks. Or we could just sit here and run in the [Oaklawn] Handicap.”
Trout said long-range plans are to follow a similar pattern of races with Shotgun Kowboy as last year, when the horse ran second in the Grade 3 Texas Mile, Grade 3 Lone Star Park Handicap, and Grade 3 Cornhusker.
Shotgun Kowboy is a Grade 3 winner and an earner of more than $800,000.
