Eric Longden, son of legendary jockey Johnny Longden, died Monday at his home in Carlsbad, Calif., with his wife, Sue, by his side. Longden, 67, had suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s Disease. No services are planned. Longden followed his father into the training business and got his first win at Golden Gate Fields on March 9, 1977. He saddled 326 winners from 2,382 mounts, including 10 stakes winners. His runners earned $3,336,607.
