Eramia to give Oaklawn Park a shot

Barbara D. Livingston Jockey Richard Eramia is seeking his fourth consecutive riding title at Louisiana Downs.

Jockey Richard Eramia said that after the Remington Park meet ends Dec. 17 he will base at Oaklawn Park, which opens in January. Eramia, who ranks second in the standings at Remington Park, said it will be the first time he has ridden a full meet at Oaklawn.

“I want to stay around here, Lone Star, Remington and Oaklawn,” said Eramia, who lives near Dallas.

Eramia, 38, has won multiple riding titles in his native Uruguay and is a five-time title winner at Louisiana Downs. He won this year’s title at Lone Star Park and has wintered at Delta Downs and Fair Grounds. Eramia said he plans to be at Oaklawn the first week in January.

Ramon Vazquez is the leading rider at Remington and a regular at Oaklawn.

Iram Diego, who is fifth in the standings at Remington, said he is seriously considering basing at Oaklawn. He would be riding there on a regular basis for the first time in many years. Diego is a two-time title winner at Sam Houston and he has finished second in the standings during the last two meets at Lone Star. Diego, 37, is a resident of Ft. Worth, Texas.

◗ Painting the Sky, who is dual-registered as a Thoroughbred and Paint, runs in Wednesday night’s second race at Delta Downs. Junior Inirio has the mount for Sandra New and trainer Brett Brinkman. Painting the Sky has registered both of her wins in Thoroughbred races at Delta.

◗ Inagoodway makes her first start since capturing the $145,000 Oklahoma Classics Distaff in Wednesday night’s sixth race at Remington. Her rivals include High Fashion Diva, who is going for her fifth straight win, and stakes winners Witt’s Town and Penguini.

◗ Ted Gondron won the riding title for the second year in a row at Retama Park, which closed Saturday night. Danny Pish was the meet’s leading trainer, while the leading owner was End Zone Athletics.

◗ Remington and Delta will both be dark on Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, and will have special schedules that week. Remington will race Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 20-21, but will be dark next Wednesday, Nov. 22. Delta will race Nov. 21 and Nov. 22, with a post of 1:35 p.m. Central.
