Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana juvenile catalog now online

The catalog for the 2016 Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana 2-year-olds in training sale is now available online, featuring 93 horses, making it the largest renewal in the auction’s three-year history.

The sale will be held Tuesday, May 10 in Opelousas, La., preceded by a presale under-tack show on May 8 at Evangeline Downs. Times have not yet been announced for either event.

The catalog has 6% more horses than the 2015 renewal of the sale, when 88 horses were entered. The inaugural auction in 2014 cataloged 92 horses.

Supplemental entries are still being accepted for the auction, which also will include horses of racing age. The initial catalog features a pair of racing-age entries.

"We have a solid catalog of what should be well-prepared 2-year-olds," said Foster Bridewell, sales director for Equine Sales Company. "Many of these horses will be ready to go right to the track to take advantage of the lucrative purses offered for Louisiana-breds and the variety of juvenile stakes later this summer and fall."

Graduates of the sale will be eligible for the 2017 Equine Sales Derby and Equine Sales Oaks, to be run at Evangeline Downs for purses of $75,000 each.
