Entry runs one-two

Dave Basler|Sep 02, 2002

ALTOONA, Iowa - Take Me Up scored an easy 3 1/2-length victory over stablemate Le Numerous in the $81,200 Ralph Hayes Stakes, the featured event on Saturday's Iowa Classic Night program, which included six Thoroughbred stakes for Iowa-breds at Prairie Meadows.

Take Me Up ($4.20) stalked the pacesetters to the second turn of the 1 1/16-mile Hayes for older statebreds under jockey Perry Compton before rallying to take the lead leaving the furlong marker. He was timed in 1:44.21.

* Sharky's Review ($3.60) took advantage of a hot pace duel to capture the $81,600 Donna Reed by a half-length over fast-closing 59-1 shot P.J's Halo in the mile-and-70-yard race for older fillies and mares.

Sumthintotalkabout set a wicked half mile fraction of 45.39 seconds while dueling inside of Trisha Runs, as jockey Luis Quinonez bided his time near the back of the pack with Sharky's Review in the 11-horse field.

Sharky's Review began picking off rivals on the second turn and hit the front in midstretch to score her third stakes win of the year for trainer Mark Bader.

* Cowboy Stuff ($3), returning on just six days' rest after setting the pace to the stretch in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby, outclassed 11 rivals in the Iowa Breeders' Derby and scored a 1 1/2-length victory.

* Dazzling Crypto ($5.80) rallied from midpack on the backstretch and drew off to a convincing 9 1/2-length victory over True Tear Drops in the mile-and-70-yard Iowa Breeders' Oaks. Quinonez rode the winner for trainer Paul Pearson.

* El Saddler ($2.80) drew off through the stretch to score an easy 5 3/4-length win in the $74,900 Iowa Cradle Stakes, giving Quinonez his first of three winners on the Iowa Classic Night card. The victory was El Saddler's third in four career starts for trainer Larry Hunt.

* Coding dueled favorite Lovesmegold into defeat and drew clear for a 2 1/2-length score under jockey Cindy Noll in the $72,750 Iowa Sorority. Coding ($15) is 2 for 2 in her career for trainer Dave McShane and owner Quadel Stable.
