Entrechat proves worthy of stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – An impressive allowance victory by the filly Entrechat on Sunday likely earned her a start in a stakes race next time out, trainer Neil Drysdale said.

“We could think about the Osunitas or something like that,” Drysdale said. The Osunitas, for nonwinners of a stakes race this year, is at 1 1/16 miles on turf Aug. 7.

Entrechat, 4, showed that the Osunitas distance certainly would be no problem with her 4 3/4-length victory going 1 1/16 miles on turf Sunday under Flavien Prat. The daughter of Giant’s Causeway tracked the early pace and then powered home, covering the final five-sixteenths of a mile in 29.13 seconds.

◗ Jockey Tyler Baze was suspended for three days, beginning Saturday, after being disqualified aboard Horse Greedy in the seventh race last Saturday and cited for careless riding.

◗ Trainer Pete Eurton was fined $500 for working a horse too soon after it was placed on the vet’s list for being sick. California Horse Racing Board rules call for horses to wait at least 72 hours to work after being placed on the list.
