Enticed carries on for It's Tricky
It’s Tricky was a stellar racemare in Godolphin blue, winning three Grade 1 events and placing in four others while competing in the same crop as Hall of Famer Royal Delta. She defeated that runner, along with Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, and multiple Grade 1 winner Love and Pride.
Retired to broodmare duty in Kentucky, It’s Tricky, by Mineshaft, produced just three foals before dying from complications of laminitis in early 2017. Her two foals to make it to the races are both stakes horses for Godolphin, led by multiple graded winner Enticed. He carries on his dam’s legacy by entering stud this season in Darley’s Kentucky stallion barn, alongside his own sire, Medaglia d’Oro.
“It’s Tricky was one of the best fillies I ever trained,” said Kiaran McLaughlin, who conditioned the mare and both of her racing offspring. “It was so special to have a son of Medaglia d’Oro out of her show so much talent. Enticed was a very smart horse who really did everything right.”
As a juvenile, Enticed finished third in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes in his second career start and later won the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. The following year, he won the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes and finished second to Vino Rosso in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial. He finished 14th in the Kentucky Derby in his final start.
“A very special situation really,” said Darren Fox, Darley’s American sales manager, of the homebred colt’s pedigree. “Add to all that, he is physically outstanding, and we think he represents great value for breeders with a lot of upside.”
It’s Tricky’s first foal was Too Complicated, an unraced Medaglia d’Oro filly produced in 2017. After Enticed’s birth, she foaled Enliven, a Ghostzapper filly, in 2016. Enliven, who was second in the Grade 3 Tempted Stakes as a juvenile, is still in training for Godolphin and McLaughlin. Meanwhile, Too Complicated has taken her place in the broodmare band. She delivered her first foal, a Speightstown colt, this year, and is in foal to Distorted Humor for 2020.
