Enola Gray pointing to Melair Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. - Enola Gray, the brilliant winner of a maiden race in her debut last month, was scratched from an optional claimer at Santa Anita on Saturday because of a wet track. It may not be long before she makes her second start.
Trainer Phil D’Amato said in a text message over the weekend that he would like to start Enola Gray in the $200,000 Melair Stakes for California-bred 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles on May 28.
“She’s a special filly,” D’Amato wrote. “I’m erring on the side of caution. We’re still pointing to the Melair.”
Owned by breeder Nick Alexander, Enola Gray won a maiden race for California-bred fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs by 16 1/4 lengths on April 10. By Grazen, Enola Gray earned a 99 Beyer Speed Figure in that performance.
