English newcomer Maglev pointing for Cecil B. DeMille Stakes
DEL MAR, Calif. – The 2-year-old colt Maglev, fifth in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury Racecourse in England on Sept. 18, was purchased last month for approximately $415,000 at auction and is bound for the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar on Nov. 28.
By Galileo Gold, Maglev is scheduled to arrive in the middle of the month and will be trained by Mark Glatt. New co-owner Tim Cohen said a 2022 campaign is a long-term focus.
“We’ll see how things go when he comes over,” Cohen said. “He has a great body and has run against good horses over there.”

Maglev has one victory in five starts, having won a maiden race at six furlongs at Yarmouth Racecourse in July. In the six-furlong Mill Reef Stakes, Maglev was beaten 2 1/2 lengths by winner Wings of War.
Big turf races still to come
After Sunday, the remaining three weeks of the Del Mar autumn meeting includes nine graded stakes, beginning with the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes for 2-year-olds at seven furlongs on Nov. 14.
The main attractions will be the final four days of the season, from Nov. 25-28, when seven graded stakes on turf are run, highlighted by the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby for 3-year-olds on Nov. 27 and Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile on Nov. 28.
