Englehart enters three in NYSS Fifth Avenue

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Jeremiah Englehart trains three of the six juvenile fillies entered Wednesday for Saturday’s $150,000 Fifth Avenue division of the New York Stallion Stakes at six furlongs at Aqueduct.
Englehart entered Cartwheelin Lulu, winner of the Joseph A. Gimma on Sept. 19; Party Like Grandma, winner of the Seeking the Ante in Saratoga on Aug. 24; and L. A. Page, a debut winner at Belmont on Sept. 14 who finished eighth in the Maid of the Mist on Oct. 20.
All three will have to contend with Sassy Agnes, a winner of three consecutive stakes, all for trainer Linda Rice.
Cartwheelin Lulu finished fifth as the 5-2 favorite in the Maid of the Mist going a mile on the Oct. 20 New York Showcase Day card.
“I think the distance on Showcase Day wasn’t her distance,” Englehart said. “She ran such a big race before, I felt giving her a little bit of time would help.”
Party Like Grandma finished fifth behind Cartwheelin Lulu in the Joseph A. Gimma and was third behind Sassy Agnes in the Shesastonecoldfox at Finger Lakes on Oct. 22.
“She was very dull, wasn’t herself,” Englehart said.
L. A. Page looks like a longshot in this spot.
Englehart said on Wednesday he may enter one or more of these fillies back for Sunday’s $150,000 Great White Way division of the New York Stallion Stakes, which is open to eligible horses of both genders.
Sassy Agnes will be the horse to beat in the Fifth Avenue coming off wins in the Lady Finger, Shesastonecoldfox, and Key Cents stakes.
Forgotten Hero and She’s So Shea D complete the field for the Fifth Avenue.
