Enforce lands minor upset in Golden State Million Futurity
Enforce, who cost $675,000 at the 2024 Ruidoso Yearling Sale, ran by far the best race of his career to record a minor upset in Sunday’s $1.17 million Golden State Million Futurity at Los Alamitos.
The complexion of the race changed remarkably moments before the start when Beuteeful broke through the gate and had to be reloaded. Beuteeful was 4-5 at the time, but her odds drifted to 3-2.
Enforce had no such issues at the gate. Ridden by Jesus Ayala for trainer Chris O’Dell, Enforce had a good start from post 6 and led by three-quarters of a length midway through the race.
The margin was a half-length at the finish. Enforce ran 400 yards in 19.77 seconds.
Jess Im Worth It, winner of the $1.04 million Ed Burke Million Futurity at 350 yards in June, finished second as the 8-5 second choice. AJ Cyclone, a 38-1 outsider, finished third in the field of nine.
Beuteeful was prominent early, but faded to finish seventh by 3 1/4 lengths.
Enforce ($15.60) is a full-brother to Runforyourlife, who won the 2018 Golden State Million Futurity for O’Dell. Enforce, by Favorite Cartel, is owned by West Texas Partners. A colt, Enforce was the most expensive hip of the 2024 Ruidoso Yearling Sale. He has won 2 of 5 starts and earned $488,609.
Enforce is out of Remember Me Rose, the most successful broodmare in recent Quarter Horse history. Aside from Enforce and Runforyourlife, Remember Me Rose is the dam of the major stakes winners Bomb Cyclone, Cyber Attack, Cyber Monday, and Powerful Favorite.
Cyber Attack was the champion 2-year-old colt of 2022 and champion 3-year-old colt of 2023.
