Endorsement hurt, out of Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Endorsement was declared out of the 136th Kentucky Derby after being injured in his final pre-race workout Wednesday morning at Churchill Downs.

Endorsement, owned by WinStar Farm and trained by Shannon Ritter, suffered a non-displaced lateral condylar fracture of the right front ankle, according to Dr. Bo Landry, the attending veterinarian.

The defection of Endorsement came less than three hours before entries were to be drawn for the Derby, which is set for Saturday. His place in the 20-horse lineup was filled by Make Music for Me, who will be ridden by Joel Rosario.

Two horses were entered in the Derby but excluded based on their graded stakes earnings, Pleasant Prince and Setsuko.

Robby Albarado, who would have ridden Endorsement, now gets the mount on Dean's Kitten.
