Enchanting Lady outduels Seduire in Landaluce

ARCADIA, Calif. – Enchanting Lady and Seduire are setting the standard for 2-year-old fillies in Southern California this year.
On May 22, Seduire beat Enchanting Lady by 1 1/2 lengths in a maiden race over 4 1/2 furlongs, the career debut for both fillies. In Sunday’s $126,000 Landaluce Stakes at Santa Anita, the result was reversed with Enchanting Lady ($4.60) running a brilliant race to win by 6 1/4 lengths over 9-5 Seduire.
Enchanting Lady ran 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.94, a final time that was 0.34 seconds quicker than Wake Up Nick’s winning time of 1:04.28 in the preceding race, the Santa Anita Juvenile.
Enchanting Lady was ridden by Martin Garcia, who kept his mount near the front throughout. Seduire set a quick pace of 21.67 for the opening quarter-mile closely tracked by Enchanting Lady. Entering the stretch, Enchanting Lady moved alongside Seduire and quickly took command.
Enchanting Lady led by two lengths with a furlong remaining and ran strongly in deep stretch.
“She was very impressive today,” said winning trainer Bob Baffert. “The good ones come around quickly.”
My Fiona finished third, 3 1/4 lengths behind Seduire. Morning Coffee was fourth, followed by Abets Abet, Sea Mona, Lanie Britt, Robo Girl, and Saturday Yodeler in the field of nine 2-year-old fillies.
Enchanting Lady races for Kaleem Shah. By Tale of the Cat, Enchanting Lady was purchased for $650,000 at the Ocala Breeders Sale of 2-year-olds in-training in March. Enchanting Lady has earned $82,600 in her first two starts.
