Gainesway stallion Empire Maker, a major influence on the classics in recent years, will stand for an advertised stud fee of $85,000 in 2019, when his return North American crop comes to the races. Empire Maker stood for the same fee in 2018. Gainesway announced its full nine-horse roster and fees late Thursday night after earlier in the week revealing that three-time leading sire Tapit will stand for $225,000 in 2019, meaning he is no longer North America's most expensive stallion. He stood for $300,000 from 2015 to 2018. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales Tapwrit is one of three Belmont Stakes winners by Tapit, and he will debut alongside his sire for $12,500 in 2019. Three sons of Tapit - Tapwrit, Tapizar, and Anchor Down - are on the Gainesway roster. Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Tapizar, sire of Kentucky Oaks winner Monomoy Girl, will stand for $10,000, and Grade 2 winner Anchor Down will stand for $7,500. Empire Maker, the 2003 Belmont Stakes winner by 1990 Kentucky Derby winner and multiple classic sire Unbridled, has been the pivot point for a strong run by this sireline in the American classics, via his classic-placed sons Pioneerof the Nile and Bodemeister, both standing at WinStar Farm. Pioneerof the Nile is the sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, Eclipse Award winner and Preakness Stakes runner-up Classic Empire, and Preakness third-place finisher Social Inclusion. Bodemeister was represented by Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming in his first crop. Empire Maker initially stood for his breeder, Juddmonte Farms, in Kentucky, but was sold to stand in Japan beginning with the 2011 season. When American Pharoah soared into racing's stratosphere, Empire Maker was repatriated by Gainesway, in partnership with Don Alberto, for the 2016 season. His resulting return crop of Kentucky-sired foals is averaging $375,641 in North America this season, with prices up to $1.35 million at Keeneland September. Gainesway's roster is rounded out by Karakontie at $10,000, Afleet Alex at $6,500, and Bird Song and Birdstone, both also hailing from the Unbridled line, at $5,000.
