Emerald, Hastings jocks to compete

AUBURN, Wash. - Riders at Emerald Downs and Hastings Park will face off in the Can-Am Jockey Challenge later this month.

The first three races of competition will be held at Emerald Downs June 29, and the action will shift to Hastings Park, 145 miles away in in Vancouver, B.C., on July 2 for three more races.

Jockeys will be assigned mounts by random draw and will earn points according to their finish positions in each race. The top point-getter will be honored as the competition's champion jockey, and the winning team will earn the right to keep the Can-Am Jockey Challenge trophy at its home track for one year.

The two four-jockey teams, plus one alternate rider for each, will be determined by the jockey standings after racing on June 17.
