Ellis shifts Friday card to next week due to extreme heat

Ellis Park has continued to modify the schedule for its opening weekend due to the extreme heat warnings in Kentucky, shifting the Friday, July 3 card in its entirety to next Thursday, July 9.

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for the Henderson, Ky., area through Friday evening, with heat index values of 107 degrees.

Ellis had previously moved the scheduled Thursday, July 2 card to next Monday, July 6 due to the heat dome that has settled over much of Kentucky.

The track is now scheduled to open its 25-day summer stand this Saturday, July 4, with a first post of 11:50 a.m. Central.

The track will now run this Saturday through Monday, and next Thursday through Sunday, before settling into its regular Friday through Sunday schedule for the summer.
