Ellis to run Monday as makeup card
After cards were canceled last Friday and Saturday at Ellis Park because of oppressive heat, the first of two possible makeup dates will be run Monday. Double entries for the coming Sunday and Monday cards were to be drawn Thursday.
Ellis racing secretary Dan Bork said a decision will wait on whether a second makeup date will be held on a Monday in August. “It’ll depend on how fans respond,” said Bork. “If it’s well received, we’ll plan a second one. If not, we’ll probably just tack on races as the meet goes on.”
Last Friday was supposed to debut a twilight post of 2:50 p.m. Central. Twilight cards will be held Aug. 9 and 23, but a third twilight card will not be rescheduled, said Bork. Regular first post at Ellis is 12:50.
◗ Jockey Florent Geroux, whose most recent rides came July 14 at Ellis, will return to action this week after taking time off to attend the wedding of a close friend in their native France. Geroux will ride Friday, Sunday, and Monday at Ellis, missing Saturday to ride at Saratoga.
