Elizabeth Way up in time to take Nassau Stakes by a neck

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Elizabeth Way tracked a slow pace en route to a gutsy win in Saturday’s $177,100 Nassau, giving trainer Roger Attfield his third victory in the Grade 2 turf stakes at Woodbine.
Fresh off a course record breaking allowance score, Another Time inherited the lead in the one-mile event. Elizabeth Way was in close proximity from the outset under Emma-Jayne Wilson, while the favored shipper Malakeh raced between rivals in fifth in the six-horse field.
Another Time appeared to be holding sway through the stretch, but Elizabeth Way eventually collared her in the final strides to prevail by a neck, in a time of 1:33.26 over the firm ground.

Malakeh wound up third, and was followed by Amalfi Coast, Nantucket Red, and Eyeinthesky.
“Watching [her] replays gave me a really good understanding as to what she needs to do,” Wilson said. “It was really about getting her into a good rhythm, and that’s what Roger and I talked about. She just galloped them down. She’s a stayer. If they gave me the lead, I was going to take it, but I was happy to have someone lead her along.”
Elizabeth Way ($13.30) earned $105,000 for owner John McCormack. The Irish-bred daughter of Frankel was coming off a poor showing in the Grade 3 Mint Julep at Churchill, but was previously third behind the future Grade 2 New York winner Mean Mary in the Grade 3 Orchid at Gulfstream, where she annexed the Grade 3 The Very One in February.
