Elate to face strong opposition in Spinster

LEXINGTON, Ky. – An outstanding renewal of the Grade 1 Spinster Stakes is expected Sunday, with Elate sure to be favored in a lineup to include Blue Prize, She’s a Julie, Dunbar Road, and a few more fillies and mares.
Secondary features on the Sunday card are the Grade 3 Bourbon and the Indian Summer. All three races are Win and You’re In events toward the Breeders’ Cup. Sunday entries were to be drawn Thursday.

◗ The second Saturday of the meet (Oct. 12) will be the front end of a Blue Grass doubleheader, with Kentucky hosting Arkansas in college football at nearby Kroger Field. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
Kickoff for the Missouri at Kentucky game on closing day, Oct. 26, has yet to be announced. The Grade 2 Fayette is the feature that afternoon.
◗ Jim Morgan, who retired in February 2008 following an outstanding training career spent mostly in Kentucky and Ohio, died Sunday of an apparent heart attack at age 85. Morgan was a star basketball player for the University of Louisville in the mid-1950s prior to becoming a high school coach, then a trainer. His top horses included Costly Dream, Bold Rendezvous, and Brent’s Prince.
