El Tigre Terrible headed to Golden State Juvenile

ARCADIA, Calif. – El Tigre Terrible, the surprise winner of the Speakeasy Stakes for 2-year-olds at five furlongs on turf on Sunday, is scheduled to start in the $200,000 Golden State Juvenile for statebreds at seven furlongs on dirt at Santa Anita on Nov. 1.
El Tigre Terrible earned an automatic berth in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint with the win at 23-1 in the Speakeasy Stakes, but would have to be nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program at a cost of $100,000 by Oct. 21, the day pre-entries are due.
Nick Cosato of Slam Dunk Racing, which owns El Tigre Terrible with Michael Nentwig, said on Thursday that El Tigre Terrible is unlikely to be supplemented.
Trained by Peter Miller, El Tigre Terrible has won 3 of 5 starts and earned $118,300. He won two races on dirt at Del Mar, including a $50,000 claimer for maidens at 5 1/2 furlongs on July 19.
Roadster nearing comeback
Roadster, the winner of the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby in April but unraced since a second in the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes in June, is nearing a comeback.
Thursday at Santa Anita, Roadster worked five furlongs in 1:00, continuing a steady pattern of workouts in the last month. Trainer Bob Baffert said in a text message that Roadster is “possible” for the $100,000 Damascus Stakes at seven furlongs on Nov. 2.
Owned by Speedway Stable, Roadster was 15th in the Kentucky Derby on May 4.
