The Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap for sprinters and the Chelsey Flower Stakes for 2-year-old fillies highlight the final Saturday program at Belmont Park’s fall meet. First post for the 10-race program is 11:45 a.m. Eastern. The $200,000 Bold Ruler is carded as race 4 at 1:45 p.m. The $100,000 Chelsey Flower is race 8 and the second leg of a late pick four with a $300,000-guaranteed pool. El Kabeir and Vyjack are the co-highweighted horses at 117 pounds for the seven-furlong Bold Ruler, but Vyjack is unlikely to run after being beaten more than a dozen lengths in an optional claimer Wednesday, which would leave a field of five. El Kabeir, the lone 3-year-old, makes his first start since finishing third in the Wood Memorial and has posted a series of impressive workouts for trainer John Terranova. The three-time graded stakes winner’s five October drills include two at six furlongs in 1:11.20 and another at five-eighths in 59.80 seconds Tuesday. “He worked sensational the other day,” said Terranova. “He’s bigger, stronger, and training fantastic. Everything’s gone really smooth, and it’s been all positive signs with him. We were looking for a spot to bring him back, and he drew a great post [5] in a short field.” Terranova said that while a solid effort Saturday could propel El Kabeir toward races such as the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct and/or the Malibu at Santa Anita, the immediate focus is getting the gray colt back to the races. In the event that Vyjack is withdrawn, El Kabeir would be the only graded stakes winner in the lineup, having won the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last fall before taking the Grade 2 Jerome and Grade 2 Gotham on the Big A’s inner dirt. In all likelihood, the pace will be set by Green Gratto, a 33-start veteran whose shining moment was a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap this year. Heaven’s Runway, who notched his only dirt win in the Hockessin Stakes at Delaware Park in July, makes his first start since being purchased by owner and trainer David Jacobson. Matrooh and Mylute are cutting back from longer races. :: Bet the Bold Ruler with DRF Bets and get FREE access to this article and all of DRF Plus, including Belmont selections, video, and real-time analysis. There is an international flair to the Chelsey Flower, scheduled for a mile on the Widener turf, as the field of 12 includes four fillies who recently raced outside the U.S. – Belvoir Bay (Britain), Enjoy Yourself (Ireland), Llanita (France), and Silky Girl (Canada). Belvoir Bay, the only two-time winner, beat males while toting 129 pounds at Goodwood in July and most recently finished a close fourth in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes on soft ground. Enjoy Yourself was purchased by Sovereign Stable and joined Terranova in the U.S. after winning her debut at 40-1. “She has adapted well and has a nice turn of foot,” said Terranova. Llanita ran fourth as the favorite in the Miss Grillo in her stateside debut. She has been training along with stablemate Ray’s The Bar, another Chad Brown-trained import who was to run Friday in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. “Llanita and Ray’s The Bar worked well [Oct. 18],” said Brown. “Particularly, the last quarter was very good, 23 seconds and change.” Silky Girl was a front-running maiden winner at Saratoga before chasing Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf entrant Catch a Glimpse in the Natalma. She might wind up battling for the lead with Look Who’s Talking and Chinchilla Dust, who dueled early in the Miss Grillo and wound up fifth and sixth.
