El Grande O has foot bruise

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - El Grande O, who was scratched out of Saturday’s Grade 2 Wood Memorial during the post parade due to lameness in his right front, had been dealing with a bit of a foot issue in the week leading up to the race, trainer Linda Rice said.
Rice said El Grande O had been nursing a foot bruise in his right front that prompted her to use a three-quarter shoe on El Grande O during training while tubbing the foot with hot water and Epsom salts. Rice went back to a full shoe for the race and said Wednesday “it must have just been stinging him a little bit. He seems a lot better on it now.”
El Grande O was placed on a 14-day veterinarian’s list and can breeze once that period expires. Blood work must be taken following the work and the results have to come back before the horse can be entered again.
El Grande O, a two-time New York-bred stakes winner at age 2 for owner Barry Schwartz, finished second in the Jerome and Grade 3 Withers and third in the Grade 3 Gotham.
