El Dorado Shooter retired
El Dorado Shooter, one of northern California's top sprinters, has been retired, according to his breeder and trainer, Cliff DeLima.
An 8-year-old gelding, won 12 of 33 starts, including eight stakes races, earning $558,242. He earned nine Beyer Speed Figures over 100, topped by a 116 in winning the Ken Maddy at Golden Gate Fields in 2001.
He had been winless since capturing the Grade 3 Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Sprint in 2003, going 0 for 6 last year and 0 for 4 this year. He finished last of seven in a $50,000 optional claimer Saturday.
DeLima, whose wife, Barbara, owns El Dorado Shooter, said: "I might have run him cheaper to try to get his confidence back, but we didn't want to lose him. He's running around in the paddock at our place now."
