Eight juveniles line up for inaugural Loyalty Stakes

CINCINNATI – Eight Ohio-accredited 2-year-olds – seven males and one filly – will contest the first running of the six-furlong, $50,000 Loyalty at Belterra Park on Saturday. Accredited is the more restrictive of the Ohio-bred categories, as both the sire and dam must be registered in Ohio.

KEY CONTENDERS

Dayton Demo (Last Beyer: 56)

◗ In a 5 1/2-furlong race Aug. 3 at Belterra, he crushed a field of maidens by nearly 14 lengths.

◗ Trainer Doug Cowans is winning at an incredible 53 percent at the meet, with 26 wins in 49 starts.

◗ Jockey Rodney Prescott will ride, and that jockey-trainer combo has won at a 62 percent clip at this meet.

◗ He worked a bullet half-mile in 48 seconds last Saturday, signaling his readiness.

Mound (Last 3 Beyers: 43-41-18)

◗ He won his last outing locally Sept. 4. He came from just off the pace going the same six-furlong distance.

Johnny Longshot (Last 2 Beyers: 40-18)

◗ One of six maidens in the field, he finished second to Dayton Demo in that rival’s maiden win and second to Mound in that colt’s maiden win.

◗ Trainer Tony Lowry wins 22 percent of the time with first-time Lasix runners.
