Egg Head earns first stakes win in LaBelle

Joe DeVivo|May 07, 2005

Egg Head easily handled the challenge of moving up to face stakes runners for the first time, scoring his third straight decisive victory in the $77,138 Francis "Jock" LaBelle for 3-year-old sprinters at Delaware Park.

Ridden by Joe Hampshire Jr. for Philadelphia Park-based trainer Lynda Knee, Egg Head ($5) stalked the early pace set by Magoo's Magic and Benjamin Baby, swung wide entering the stretch to take the lead, and drew off to win by 9 1/2 lengths. He covered six furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.28.

Lieutenant Danz, a 16-1 shot, outfinished Shmoo by a nose for second.

Egg Head is now 4 for 6 lifetime, winning his last three starts by a combined 25 lengths.
