Edgeway wins a Feb. 29 maiden race at Oaklawn Park

Coady Photography Edgeway was an impressive five-length maiden winner on Feb. 29. She finished third in the Purple Martin Stakes in her first try against winners.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Edgeway will take on stakes winners Sekani, High On Gin, Gee She Sparkles, and Sassy Seneca in Sunday’s ninth race at Oaklawn Park.

The optional $80,000 claiming sprint at six furlongs is for 3-year-old fillies. It goes with a full field of 12.

Edgeway made a splash here Feb. 29, when she won her career debut in a maiden special weight sprint. She cruised on the front end, winning by five lengths and earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 94.

Edgeway advanced to the $100,000 Purple Martin here April 4, and after dueling through quick fractions finished third in the six-furlong race. She crossed the wire two lengths behind winner Kimari.

Trainer John Sadler said last week that Edgeway would have come under consideration for the Grade 2 Eight Belles at Churchill Downs, but the stakes was part of the Kentucky Derby week of racing that has been postponed to September.

Tyler Baze will ride Edgeway for Hronis Racing. She breaks from post 11.
