Eden Grey’s Kitten to dirt
As well as Eden Grey’s Kitten won his career debut, trainer Steve Flint said not to be surprised if the Louisiana-bred 3-year-old shows more when he races again Sunday.
Eden Grey’s Kitten is one of seven Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds in Sunday’s fifth race, and his morning-line odds of 9-5 might be generous. By Kitten’s Joy and owned by the Whispering Oaks Farm of trainer Carrol Castille, Eden Grey’s Kitten won his first start, a turf sprint, by nearly 11 lengths while barely being asked.
In his second start, in a turf-route allowance Jan. 26, he was narrowly defeated by a decent horse named Gallery, but Flint said he was running the horse on turf only because those were the races available at the time.
“I know he’s a Kitten’s Joy, but this horse is much, much better on dirt,” Flint said.
And if that’s the case, it’s probably game over Sunday, though Cajun Spirit, the likely second choice, did flash a touch of talent in winning his debut in a dirt sprint Feb. 5.
