ELMONT, N.Y. - Echo Zulu, the 2021 2-year-old filly champion who was scratched from the Grade 1 Acorn just minutes before the start of the race, is back at Churchill Downs with trainer Steve Asmussen. According to David Fiske, racing manager for owner Ron Winchell, Echo Zulu may have “a little strain in a suspensory left front,” he said. Fiske said X-rays and a nuclear scan done by Dr. Larry Bramlage at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., “came back unremarkable. We’ll go easy for a couple of weeks, make sure we’re not compounding any problems. Dr. Bramlage didn’t seem to be concerned.” Echo Zulu went 4 for 4 last year, winning three Grade 1s capped by a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. This year, she won the Fair Grounds Oaks to kick off her 3-year-old campaign. In the Kentucky Oaks, Echo Zulu contested a strong early pace before finishing fourth, her first career defeat. :: Get ready for Saratoga and Del Mar with a Quarterly subscription to DRF Past Performances
